Men As Victims: Understanding Domestic Violence And Its Forms

Dr. Mujibur Rehman* & Vanshika Anand**

ABSTRACT

In many cultures, including India, where the emphasis has historically been on female victims, and domestic violence against men is a problem that is frequently disregarded. Although women are frequently thought of as the main victims of domestic violence, men are also subjected to physical, emotional, and psychological abuse in close relationships. The idea of domestic violence against males, its manifestations, and the social stigmas that lead to the underreporting of such incidents are all examined in this essay. Gender norms, social views of masculinity, and a dearth of appropriate support networks catered to their needs are just a few of the major obstacles that male victims frequently encounter. Many men are unable to seek help because of these obstacles.

The researcher in this paper tries to highlight the various abuses the men faces in their life such as financial, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, and how they impact their mental health and cause PTSD, anxiety, and despair. The legal system frequently ignores the special requirements of male victims, which exacerbates their vulnerability and sense of isolation.

This paper also emphasizes how important it is to debunk beliefs and make the domestic violence laws gender neutral and also increase public awareness, and establish a safe space for males who are victims of domestic violence. It need a more comprehensive strategy, increased funding, support programs targeted at men, public awareness campaigns, and improved professional training to recognize and help male victims.

Keywords: Domestic violence, male victims, societal stigma, mental health, support systems.
