Patriarchal Mindset Vis-A-Vis Female Foeticide: A Critical Study

ABSTRACT

The Patriarchal mindset of Indian society has resulted in Genocide of Daughters. Following patriarchal norms is not new in Indian society. Indian society has been preferring male children over females for ages. Female foeticide means eradication of a female child by termination of pregnancy. Such immoral practice has resulted in a declining sex ratio in our country. it's a very saddening and disgraceful truth which cant be denied or erased from history. The patriarchal mindsets that are based on extreme beliefs of male dominating society which cannot be changed just by implementing any specific legislation. Though stringent laws are implemented to prohibit female foeticide, such incidents are still witnessed. The current laws pertaining to prohibition of sex determination and eradication of female foeticide lacks in implementation. This research paper mainly focuses on analyzing the root causes for female foeticide and laws pertaining to the same subject matter and various suggestive measures shall be provided to overcome such grave social issues of our country.
