Raj Upadhyay, Auro University

ABSTRACT

In India, political corruption is still a major issue that has a negative impact on both governance and economic development. Political corruption in India presents a significant barrier to effective governance and sustainable economic development, affecting all levels of public administration and societal trust. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of political corruption, characterizing it as the misuse of public office for private gain, which manifests in various forms including bribery, nepotism, and the misappropriation of public resources. The consequences of corruption are far-reaching, leading to diminished quality of essential services such as healthcare and education, and fostering a culture of mistrust among citizens towards their government.

The paper further examines regional variations in corruption across Indian states, highlighting how perceptions and experiences of corruption can vary significantly by locality. This insight underscores the necessity for tailored anti-corruption strategies that address specific regional challenges. To combat this entrenched issue, the study advocates for a multipronged approach involving the strengthening of anticorruption institutions, enhancing governmental transparency, and promoting active citizen engagement in governance processes. The enforcement of stringent anticorruption laws and the adoption of technological solutions, such as e- governance and data-driven analysis, are recommended to improve accountability and facilitate quicker resolution of corruption cases.

This research paper emphasizes a commitment to fostering a culture of integrity and ethical governance, which is essential for restoring public trust, ensuring equitable resource distribution, and driving inclusive economic growth. By addressing corruption holistically, India can pave the way for a democratic system that genuinely serves its diverse population and supports sustainable development.
