ABSTRACT
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) represents a significant milestone in India’s legal and social framework for workplace gender equality. More than a decade after its enactment, compliance and effectiveness remain inconsistent across the corporate sector. This research critically evaluates the implementation of the POSH Act within Gujarat’s corporate environment, emphasizing awareness, compliance mechanisms, and internal committee functioning. Using a mixed-method approach combining simulated primary data (n=120) and secondary reports from credible institutions, the study reveals that while large corporations show 83% compliance, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) lag at 48%. Statistical and thematic analyses confirm a gap between policy intent and practice, with deterrents such as fear of retaliation, procedural complexity, and limited monitoring. Recommendations include enhanced state-level audits, structured sensitization programs, and integrated grievance redressal systems. The findings suggest that effective POSH enforcement requires not only procedural adherence but also organizational cultural reform.
