ABSTRACT


Widows are one of the most ignored sections of society. In addition to the loss of a husband, the rejection women undergo from their family members and relatives is heart-breaking. Considering the lack of acceptance, they face in society; it becomes essential to understand where the taboo surrounding them originates from and whether widows were treated the same way they were in earlier times. The researcher in this paper will be analysing the position of widows in ancient India by inferring the references made to widows in ancient books in the Indian context.
