ABSTRACT

India is an independent democratic nation established on 15th August 19472. It has the longest written constitution for a sovereign nation in the world having 395 articles in 22 parts and 8 schedules3. Since 1947, India has welcomed 14 Prime Ministers4 as the head of the government. These statements are facts recognized in accurately updated history textbooks, globally. These facts are, also, provided by the Prime Minister’s Office when a citizen of India exercises their right to information5, and asks relevant questions.

In this article, the author dives into the klaxons of a tyrannical regime under translucent or opaque governance, the importance of free media, journalists posing the right questions and the government being accountable. This article intends to foster an understanding of a democracy, India’s current situation and their intersection.
