Mohd Aqib Aslam, Ph.d Research Scholar, Department of Law, University of Jammu

ABSTRACT

The freedom to regulate one’s own body and sexuality, free from discrimination, coercion, and abuse, is essential for women’s empowerment. Women’s right to self-determination and autonomy over their bodies cannot be protected if their sexual rights are not acknowledged by states. The purpose of this paper is to call readers attention to the injustices and prejudice that women endure throughout their lives, as well as how such treatment impacts a woman’s sexual rights and reproductive health. The authors of this research attempted to analyse and assess existing international and national standards for the protection of women’s sexual rights. Sexual harassment, strained matrimony, woman genital disfigurement, plus limits resting on their attire, education, employment, and involvement in community living are all addressed within the article. The paper’s main conclusions include the importance of addressing women’s sexual rights, as these are fundamental human rights that must be addressed in order to ensure equality and justice for women.

Keywords: Sexual Rights, Abortions, Sterilisation, Fundamental Rights, Empowerment, and Childbirth.
