Dr. Bindu Variath, Associate Professor of Law, Gopaldas Jhamatmal Advani Law College, Department of Law, affiliated to the University of Mumbai

ABSTRACT:

Reproductive rights and health in India remain critical yet complex issues, deeply influenced by socio-cultural, economic, and political factors. Despite significant progress in policy and healthcare infrastructure, women across the country continue to face substantial barriers in accessing comprehensive reproductive healthcare. This abstract examines the multifaceted challenges related to reproductive rights in India, including limited access to contraception, unsafe abortion practices, inadequate maternal healthcare, and the pervasive influence of patriarchal norms. It also highlights the disparities between urban and rural populations, as well as the intersectional challenges faced by marginalized communities. The role of government policies, legal frameworks, and non-governmental organizations in addressing these issues is critically analyzed, with a focus on identifying gaps in implementation and opportunities for improvement. By exploring these challenges, this paper aims to contribute to a more nuanced understanding of reproductive rights in India and advocate for more equitable and accessible healthcare services for all women.
