INTRODUCTION
Lord Denning said that Press acts as an instrument of check and balances upon the judicial activities, it was a very famous practice in British era, journalist were given place to sit inside the courtroom, in order to note down all such correct details relating to the case,1this is true Indian journalist also followed this trend till recently, before the advent of ‘baboo’ culture in journalism, journalist used to personally enquire on certain judicial matters and report. Now, they have hired or taken up unethical steps to get certain information out from the courtroom, naming such activities under umbrella ‘source unknown’, media is the true watchdog of justice, it was very controversial remark by former Justice Katju. Question before us, can media criticise the conduct of judiciary? Several jurists believe that it is a mere responsibility of media to create a base of critical examination in the society towards judiciary or any other institution. But, in straighter terms we can also say that freedom to the media has been restored by the judiciary itself.
