INTRODUCTION
Consumer protection is a important aspect of modern legal systems, aimed at securing the interests of consumers against unjust trade practices, defective goods, and deficient services. In India, consumer protection is governed by the Consumer Protection Act, 20191, which replaced the earlier Consumer Protection Act, 1986. This paper delves into consumer protection offenses under the Indian Penal Code (IPC)2 and the Consumer Protection Act, 20193, ensuring a detailed legal analysis and case studies to illustrate the application of these laws.

Ancient texts like Vedas and Dharmashastras tells us about the deep historical roots of Consumer protection in India with them emphasizing consumer welfare and ethical trade practices. The rulers of medieval era ensured methods like market regulations to protect the consumers interest. The foundation for contemporary consumer rights legislation was laid during the British colonial era which was a result of modern legal system and consumer protection laws.
