ABSTRACT

The rights and welfare of senior citizens constitute a critical area of social justice and human development. With India's ageing population projected to reach over 300 million by 2050, safeguarding the dignity, economic security, healthcare access, and protection from abuse for the elderly has become an urgent priority. This article, based on an authentic study of senior citizen’s rights, analyses the socio-legal landscape in India, highlighting constitutional guarantees, statutory protections, welfare schemes, and existing challenges. It advocates for a rights-based approach to ageing, ensuring that senior citizens lead dignified, secure, and empowered lives.
