ABSTRACT


This article examines the legal provisions as well as the socio-cultural consequences of the ability to maintain or change one's name in India. It gives a comprehensive examination of the legal system enabling name changes, including both legislative and judicial issues. The article also dives into the historical and cultural significance of names in India, providing insight into the reasons why individuals choose to change their names. It also investigates how name changes affect personal identity, cultural views, and governmental processes. This article tries to illustrate the intricacies and evolving nature of the right to one's name in the Indian context by reviewing numerous case studies and legal precedents.
