ABSTRACT
Climate change has been seen as the leading environmental problem of the country and has become a subject of utmost priority. Climate change poses a threat to the humans, their rights to life, food and water. The risks of climate change are higher in developing nations. Most of the developing nations lack Technological advancements and financial security to adapt to possible climate change.
In this research an effort has been made to highlight the issue of climate change and its possible outcomes in near future. A study has been carried out through empirical research on the drought that occurred in Sukhna Lake Chandigarh in the year 2018 due to the sudden increase in the temperature. It also focuses on U.T’S stand relating to the same issue.
It also throw some light on various International conventions that were held in regard of the issue. The various conventions were UNFCCC, Paris Agreement, Kyoto Protocol, Montreal Protocol and Copenhagen convention. These all are discussed in detail by the researcher. It also sheds some light on the need to combine sustainability and climate change in such a way that it leads to decrease in rising temperature.
Further, the research talks about the drought situation that occurred in Sukhna Lake Chandigarh and how it affected wildlife and tourism. It also mentions the main cause for the drought and what measures were taken by the U.T. Administration to resolve it. Following the end of research, the researcher has given some recommendations which if implemented can lead to slowing down of the climate change and it’s affects in near future.
