Adv. Ankita Anil Pawar (Independent researcher)

ABSTRACT

The advancement of technology has had a significant impact on human trafficking, bringing both obstacles and benefits. Cybercrime is defined as a crime committed using a computer or the internet. In human trafficking, offenders employ a variety of methods to attract victims, ranging from conventional to modern techniques. "Cyber trafficking" refers to human trafficking that takes place through the internet or any other computer based technology. While technology is commonly used to support human trafficking, it may also be utilised to help practitioners battle the crime. The Dark Web or encrypted applications are used by the perpetrators and their associates for communication. Victims are recruited through bogus social media accounts and app profiles.

The rapid increase in cases of child trafficking is also disturbing. European countries, USA, etc. have recognised the increasing use of technology for trafficking and have started taking steps to counter it. This study aims to explore how technology has impacted the functioning of human traffickers and the efficacy of Indian legislations to counter it.
