ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study is to find the perceptions of the general public on how the remote sensing technology is used for enforcing human rights. An empirical study is conducted using convenient sampling method, with 234 respondents, through a combination of questionnaire-survey and interview schedule method. The respondents were from different parts of the world. The people generally have faith in technology that it will help in saving humanity and people expect it to help in curtailing human rights violations rather than easing the lives of rich people alone. People feel that remote sensing technology can be used in many ways but they are not sure if it is the best way to track human rights violations owing to their concern over personal privacy. Technology has been able to do wonders to human society. With the help of remote sensing technology, human rights can be protected by gathering information remotely. But, the concern over people’s privacy needs to be taken into account while using remote sensing technology. Hence, regulations need to made on the use of remote sensing technology so that it is used for a good cause and shouldn’t land in wrong hands who could use it for immoral purposes. This paper has been able to show the real thoughts of the public on the use of technology like remote sensing in tracking human rights violations and enforcing human rights.
