ABSTRACT

Technology transfer stands as a critical driver of economic growth and innovation, facilitating the dissemination of knowledge and the integration of cutting-edge solutions across borders. Drawing insights from the United States' experience, India seeks to leverage lessons learned to inform its own strategies for fostering innovation and driving economic prosperity. The United States' journey in technology transfer has been characterized by legislative reforms, collaborative partnerships, and streamlined processes. The enactment of the Bayh-Dole Act in 1980 revolutionized technology transfer by empowering universities and research institutions to retain ownership of inventions arising from federally funded research, thereby incentivizing commercialization and accelerating the licensing process.

Moreover, the United States' culture of collaboration and partnership has played a pivotal role in driving innovation, fostering knowledge exchange, and facilitating the commercialization of technologies. Academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and government agencies collaborate seamlessly to share resources, expertise, and insights, creating a fertile ground for innovation to flourish. Additionally, the streamlined patenting process in the United States has expedited technology transfer and protected intellectual property rights, with initiatives such as the Patent Cooperation Treaty and the America Invents Act simplifying patent application procedures and enhancing patent quality.

As India seeks to emulate the United States' success in technology transfer, it aims to enact conducive legislative reforms, foster collaborative ecosystems, and streamline processes to create an enabling environment for innovation. By harnessing the power of technology transfer, India endeavors to unlock new avenues of economic growth, drive societal progress, and emerge as a global leader in innovation and technology.
