Dibya Ranjan Swain, SOA National Institute of Law

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to study the key features of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The strength and weakness of India lie in its population. India’s economy which was hugely dependent on agriculture is slowly showing a trend towards other sectors. Where initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Start-up India’ are in full swing and where E-Commerce is dominating the market there are huge chances of fraud, misrepresentation, deceit. Thus, it is important to protect and safeguard people at the receiving end, i.e., “Consumers”. This paper focuses on the need and merits of the Consumer Protection Act,2019, and how it can be used by the consumers as a weapon to attack against any unfair means and defend their rights by critically analyzing various facts, figures, and provisions.
