ABSTRACT
India’s rapid economic growth has triggered an unprecedented rise in energy demand, making energy security and environmental protection two critical and often conflicting priorities. While energy security focuses on ensuring a stable and affordable supply of energy, environmental protection addresses the need to mitigate the adverse effects of energy production and consumption on ecosystems and human health. This paper critically analyzes India’s energy policies, legal frameworks, renewable energy initiatives, and international commitments. By exploring the synergies and conflicts between energy security and environmental protection, the paper identifies gaps and provides policy recommendations to balance these two objectives. The article concludes by suggesting pathways for India to achieve sustainable development, emphasizing the importance of renewable energy, effective governance, and community engagement.
