ABSTRACT

John Rawls’, an American Philosopher, in his theory of Social Justice talks about ‘justice as fairness’; it also has two main principles the first one being principle of Liberty, and the second one is principle of equal number of chances of opportunities for all. To facilitate this theory he devised the concept of original position in which with the help of veil of ignorance one can make a non-biased judgement. It has been tried to apply this theory in the political scenario of India, where there is a lot of socio-economic issues like population, corruption, etc. The makers of Indian Constitution presumably had the same idea of the 'Original Position' and tried to lay down the 'principles of justice' through the Constitution of India. In the constitution, the process to implementation of the principles of justice in future has also been laid and it has been guiding us to fight challenges like poverty, corruption, social inequality etc. We can see the application of this theory in the provisions and policies undertaken by the government for the upliftment of the deprived section of society. Though there's a relevance of Rawls' theory in our constitution or social reforms, but still this theory cannot be unconditionally applied in practical world in each and every aspect of society and state.
