ABSTRACT
The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is a proposed set of laws aimed at replacing personal laws based on the scriptures and customs of various religious communities in India with a common set of rules governing matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption for all citizens, regardless of religion. This paper also reflects a deeper philosophical inquiry that views law not merely as an external command but as a framework for internal freedom and human dignity, transcending rigid religious identities. The research highlights how a UCC, when envisioned not as coercion but as liberation from archaic customs, could harmonize individual rights with collective constitutional morality. By focusing on human experience rather than religious tradition, the UCC can serve as a bridge between equality and spiritual autonomy in a pluralistic democracy.
