The Potential Of Special Purpose Acquisition Companies In India: An Analysis Of The Regulatory Frame

ABSTRACT

Over the past few years there has been a surge in the number of Special Purpose Acquisition Companies being formed in the United States modifying the language of mergers in the the way. According to a survey, there was a rise in US-listed SPAC volumes in the first quarter of 2021 as compared to the entire financial year of 2020 from USD 80 billion to USD 160 billion.

This paper aims to analyse the utility and The utility and risks associated with a SPAC, especially in the Indian context. It also analyses the lacunae in the statutory provisions for legally permitting the existence and functioning of SPACs in India and how it needs to be amended to ensure the proliferation of SPACs in the country.
