ABSTRACT
Maintaining healthy and harmonic relationship between nations of the world is a significant measure which should be ensured in order to reach a level of peaceful relations atmosphere among them. Achieving international peace and security is and has always been, ever since the inception of the implementation of the provisions of the United Nations Charter, a primary purpose of the international community, especially the United Nations. The Security Council, a regulatory as well as executing organ of the United Nations, is responsible for the upkeep and for overall preservation of global peace.
The ongoing conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine is an important area of study not only because the same is an instance of modern warfare but also because a reasonable questions is apt to arise in our logical minds as to why the Security Council does not involve itself fully in this urgent international dispute between the countries and reach a resolution? This particular inquiry remains as a chief area of study in the present research paper. Certain factors within the working mechanism of the Council poses as loopholes in this regard.
Along with the study, certain practical solutions have also been suggested which, if implemented, would be able to eliminate the detected loophole in the Security Council system working mechanism and thus finally the present war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine could be peacefully resolved. Increasing seats within permanent membership of the Council along with introduction of provision of system of Appeal within the current voting procedure of the Council could sustainably result in eliminating those loopholes.
