Sonia Nath, PhD Research Scholar, Law Department, Nagaland University, India

ABSTRACT

Today, we live in the internet era, where growth and usage of the internet have touched the sky. Even in remote places of the North East, people are using a smartphone and are getting addicted to the internet, but still, knowledge of proper handling of the internet is at zero level. The internet is the fastest source of information for every user, either for accessing or sharing the same. Everything comes with a cost, and the same applies to the internet. Apart from the positive side of e-revolution, it also attracts hackers and people who know about exploiting a loophole in a system. The present study will focus on cybercrime trends in North East states from 2015 to 2020, along with changing dimensions of the motive behind the crime and the increasing pattern of cybercrime against women to understand the nature of cybercrime in the Northeast. In addition to that, the study will discuss legal provisions in India relating to cybercrime. It is not only a threat to the country, but also it has developed insecurity among internet users.
