Violence Against Children In Zanzibar: The Legal Impacts

ABSTRACT

Child violence in Zanzibar estimated to hinder the development of a child in a large extent. The investigation founds out the laws governing child protection as against child violence have a lot of impacts including psychological impacts and challenges involved faced by children especially when they are reported as victims. The reasons the study is to study the child violence so as to keep the community attentive of the problems. It seems that there are number of cases against child violence and increasing rate of child violence in Zanzibar despite many government efforts. The laws, investigations process and time limit of the cases against children were examined during the proceedings as the effort made to fight against child violence and fighting against Gender Based Violence (GBV). In achieving its goal, it took different measures to make sure the children are protected in regarding the international standard. The survey was made May 2020 covering eleven Districts in Zanzibar - both Unguja and Pemba. The short survey conducted within community and three government institutions deal with children rights.
