ABSTRACT
Democratic governance depends upon informed and active citizens who participate effectively in electoral and civic processes. Voting behaviour remains a critical indicator of democratic participation and reflects the extent to which citizens engage with political institutions and public affairs. In recent years, civic education has emerged as a significant factor influencing political knowledge, voter participation, political efficacy, and democratic citizenship. Simultaneously, rapid technological advancements, digital communication platforms, and social media have transformed traditional patterns of political engagement. This systematic review examines the relationship between civic education and voting behaviour between 2020 and 2024. The study synthesizes contemporary literature concerning political awareness, voter turnout, democratic participation, media literacy, youth engagement, women's political participation, and digital democracy. The findings indicate that civic education contributes significantly to political knowledge, civic responsibility, and electoral participation. Furthermore, media literacy and digital citizenship have become increasingly important in addressing challenges associated with misinformation, political polarization, and declining trust in public institutions. The review concludes that effective civic education remains an essential instrument for strengthening democratic governance and promoting informed electoral participation in contemporary societies.
