Bhaskar Mukherjee, Assistant Professor of Law, Shyam Bazar Law College & Arushi Sharma, LLM, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland

ABSTRACT

YouTube has gained wide popularity over the years and while one may feel creative to post unique content on the platform, it is also a matter for concern when creators go through the Copyright policy of YouTube. On one hand, the easy-to-use platform which initially started as a website, offers wide array of options for those looking to upload meaningful content and earn through the same. However, it also comes with a package of responsibilities and ‘fair use’ policies which YouTube strictly adheres to and thus, creates a thin line between piracy and authentic use of the content creation guidelines. This paper focuses on the relevant issues that growing YouTubers in India face with respect to the present Copyright policies that are followed by the platform.
