A Study Of Honour Killing In India: A Socio-Legal Analysis

ABSTRACT

Today, every nation works to improve and develop its citizens, even the weaker groups like women and children. India is the largest democratic country in the world with its lengthy constitution. It offers several provisions to safeguard of fundamental rights. Additionally, it provides power to authorities to support various programmes for the welfare of society, particularly for weaker section. In the 21st century, crimes committed in the name of honour are drastically on the rise. There are many instances where family members or relatives kill their own children because they marry a male or girl from a lower caste or for a variety of other reasons to avoid shame falling on their family.

This paper is based on doctrinal work and the data collected from articles, newspaper, journal and government notifications. This paper also offers a solid forum for discussion of the concept of honour killing, reasons for honour killing, and legal provision for protection of women from honour killing in India. Also this Article discussed, the International human rights perspective like CEDAW and UDHR etc. for the protection of women from such offence in name of honour. With the help of Judicial approaches, this Article highlights, the a socio-legal scenario of Honour Killing in India.
