Acid Attack: Emerging Issue In India

ABSTRACT


India has been witnessing a disturbing development of acid attack over the last decade. Acid attack is one of the emerging issues in India. It is a brutal crime which can be seen to cruel the deliberate utilize of tossing planned acid to assault another human being. Acid attack could be a world issue influencing all without discrimination. It is an intolerable crime committed more often against women, with an intention to deform or murder her. It can also be called as the gender based viciousness against women. Assault by acid once in a while murders a human being but it causes serious physical, mental and social scarring. Acid attack is an endeavour by the culprit to devastate and degrade a woman physically, mentally and emotionally. Victims confront a lifetime of segregation from society, even psychological results of acid violence has gone unnoticed by the media now a days. In any case, the event of interminable injury and social separation has moreover been found. Most of the people are aware of the crime happening in the society but not aware about the existing laws related to it. So this paper spotlight the existing laws related to Acid attacks in India and also focus on its characteristics which constitutes discrimination and sets up a plan for national activity to end such discrimination. Mainly, this paper highlights the Physiological, Psychological, Statistical, Social and Economic impacts of acid attacks in India. Furthermore, Landmark judgements related to Acid attack cases are also elucidated in this paper. It indeed looks at the contemporary laws and related convention administering acid attacks.
