Sarthak Upadhyaya, Amity Law School, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida

ABSTRACT

In the ever-changing digital landscape, cybercrime remains a daunting task, constantly adapting to take advantage of the latest technological breakthroughs. This study seeks to investigate the complex and dynamic relationship between cybercrime and social media platforms, acknowledging the online networks' ubiquitous importance in defining modern communication and interaction. As hackers use advanced strategies to enter social media channels and online platforms, individuals, corporations, and governments face unprecedented vulnerabilities and threats. This study tries to understand the complexities of cybercrime dynamics by looking into cybercriminals' methods of operation on social media, offering light on the tactics used to carry out illicit actions and abuse user data. Furthermore, it seeks to evaluate the efficacy of existing legal frameworks in addressing the multifaceted difficulties provided by cybercrime, with a focus on the legal landscape of India, as typified by the Information Technology Act of 2000. Furthermore, the research investigates the socioeconomic consequences of cyber victimization, emphasizing its disproportionate impact on vulnerable groups, particularly women. It emphasizes the importance of comprehensive legal reforms and proactive steps to safeguard people's rights and well-being in the digital age. This paper uses an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates insights from legal studies, cybersecurity, and social sciences to contribute to a deeper understanding of cybercrime phenomena and inform policy interventions aimed at fostering a safer and more secure digital environment for all stakeholders.
