Drug Trafficking: A Critical Analysis

Bhavya Jha, Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, NMIMS Mumbai

ABSTRACT

The research on upper-level drug traffickers in different countries is examined in this article. An examination and critique of drug trafficker typologies and theoretical models of organised crime as they apply to upper-level drug networks are included. Drug markets, according to studies of higher-level drug trafficking, are informal and loosely organised organisations of relatively small syndicates or crews of individual drug entrepreneurs. They compete for market share by dealing with trusted associates drawn from ethnic, familial, and friendship networks. Most dealers are extremely cautious, avoid using violence, make big profits, try to keep a low profile, justify their behaviour as business activity, and operate in geographically narrow areas.
