Pooja Agrawal, LL.M, Galgotias University, Greater Noida

ABSTRACT

Gender disparities in victimization are a critical area of study that necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the discrimination factors and perspectives of both male and female survivors. This research paper aims to explore the underlying factors contributing to gender disparities in victimization and analyze the distinct perspectives of male and female survivors. The paper adopts a multidimensional approach to conceptualize victimization, encompassing various forms such as sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and sexual harassment. Drawing upon theoretical frameworks, the research investigates the societal and cultural influences that perpetuate gender-based victimization. Discrimination factors, including gender roles, power dynamics, societal expectations, and stereotypes, are examined to better comprehend their impact on the victimization experiences of males and females. The paper also highlights the unique challenges faced by male and female survivors in disclosing their victimization and seeking support. Through an intersectional lens, it explores how multiple forms of discrimination, such as race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, intersect with gender to influence the experiences of survivors. By understanding the perspectives of male and female survivors, the paper sheds light on the specific needs, barriers, and implications for support and intervention strategies. This research contributes to the broader discourse on gender disparities in victimization and emphasizes the importance of gender- inclusive approaches in addressing the diverse needs of survivors. The findings of this study have practical implications for the development of targeted prevention efforts, support services, and policies aimed at reducing gender disparities in victimization and promoting a more equitable and inclusive society.
