From Tariffs To Talent Wars, Globalisation Under Strain: A Legal-Economic Study Of U.S. Tariffs & H-1b Visa Fee Hikes

Milan Tyagi, O.P. Jindal Global University

ABSTRACT

Globalisation has been traditionally understood as the free movement of goods, capital and talent to cause interdependent trade, movement and cooperation but recent events have indicated that it has weak areas. This debate illuminates the U.S tariff policies regarding Indian goods, the outcome of turmoil to India, and the declaration that the president of America has recently made regarding raising the fee of H-1B visa to shocking 1,00,000 dollars a year under the rule of President Donald Trump on the Indian NRI as Indian H-1B proffesionals generally submit lower median wages than their counterparts in other nations, they are prone to be struck. India however reacted by making deals with a wider range of countries and venturing into new markets. They have affected the trade relations between the Indians and the U.S negatively, and have created both legal and economic issues to the Indian exporters and the professionals of Indian origin in other nations, though they have been explained under the umbrella of protecting the American industries and employment within their countries. The absurdity of the U.S.-India relations is also the point that has been revealed in this research: on the one hand, the United States is constantly acting as the powerful partner and the Indian friend, on the other hand, the world order of its policy-making strategies relies too much on the selfish interests, without analyzing the principles of globalization and cooperation. In the end, globalization needs to be re-evaluated and governments should weigh between local concerns and the collective duty of maintaining equitable and cordial international relations in this study.
