ABSTRACT


The Investments and Securities Tribunal enjoys exclusive jurisdiction in matters appertaining to the capital market. No other court in our land is empowered as a first responder to resolve disputes in the capital market ecosystem The importance of the capital market to the growth of a nation’ economy cannot be overemphasized. This apparently led the National Assembly to enact the Investments and Securities Act 2025 and established the Investments and Securities Tribunal as a specialized civil court with the specific mandate to adjudicate disputes arising from investments and securities transactions in Nigeria. The efficient resolution of capital market disputes is of utmost importance for bolstering investor confidence and ensuring the strength of Nigeria’s financial market. This paper studied the Investments and Securities claims: A review of the Investments and Securities Tribunal jurisdiction and opportunities for legal practitioners. The statutory mandate of the jurisdiction of the Investments and Securities Tribunal, its effectiveness in providing specialized, timely, and accessible adjudication of disputes arising from investments and securities transactions. This paper also examined the opportunities that are open for legal practitioners to ply their trade. The market is growing and there is a strong need to cultivate legal practitioners who are knowledgeable in the field of investments and securities laws. Legal practitioners who understand how the market works. This paper reviews the legal basis of the Investments and Securities Tribunal jurisdiction, the types of claims it entertains, procedural innovations, and the emerging opportunities for legal practitioners within the capital market ecosystem.
