Protection Of Human Rights Of Prisoners In India

ABSTRACT

This paper is talking about prisoner’s rights in India. This paper will elaborate on how prisoners are facing difficulties under criminal trial there is no guarantee under the Constitution of India however Article 14 of the Constitution provides equal protection of the law to the prisoners it majorly talks about equality among all citizens in the society and Article 15 prohibits discrimination on the grounds of sex. In order to protect prisoners, the Government of India passed the Protection of Human Rights Act of 1993 and constituted the National Human Rights Commission to promote and protect human rights. Our Constitution of India also contains the Directive Principles of State Policy which gave States to provide economic and social rights to people in a specified direction. India has also ratified various International Conventions related to women prisoners in India. CEDAW is one of the important discriminations against women in the year 1993. The paper will focus on topics like granting free legal aid services wherever necessary, and adequate nutrition during pregnancy and lactation.
