Thitiksha T, Aswathy U V and Mano Bala P, Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai

ABSTRACT

Marine biodiversity, human wellbeing, and economic maintainability are all at hazard due to the worldwide environmental issue that's marine plastic contamination. Millions metric tons of plastic waste end up within the seas each year, and by 2050, it's anticipated that plastic contamination may exceed fish biomass. In oceanic environments, plastics—especially microplastics— persist, causing environment degradation, chemical contamination, and bioaccumulation in nourishment chains. The viability of current international lawful systems to control marine plastic contamination is hampered by issues with authorization, compliance, and authoritative crevices. In a comparable way, national administrative systems of India implement confinements but endure from deficiently execution and industry non-compliance. The legitimate and legislative reactions to marine plastic contamination are assessed in this study, which also looks at national and international administrative frameworks, their imperfections, and potential remedies. The research looks at cutting-edge approaches such circular economy models, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). This study states the significance of bioremediation, proposes risk-assessment systems for bioremediation advances, more international collaboration, more exacting laws administering plastic waste, and monetary motivating forces for naturally preferable substitutes. Combating marine plastic contamination and progressing long-term natural maintainability require a comprehensive approach that coordinating legislation, science, and policy approaches.

Keywords: marine plastic pollution, plastic waste management rules, micro- plastic, circular economy, bioremediation, sustainable waste management, fungal plastics degradation, global plastic treaty.
