Relationship Between Gender And Crime

Komal Pensia, B.A. LL.B., University of Petroleum and Energy Studies

ABSTRACT

The identification of two sexes as male and female is known as gender. On the other hand, the omission in violation of law or an illegal act is regarded as crime. But when the crime stands ‘gendered’ in respect to masculinity and femininity, it shapes the cognisance of offence in a different prospective and retrospective manner. Most commonly it has been observed that “men commits more crime, women commits less crime” and therefore to its consequence here comes the discussions amongst the community and amendments in the law. This paper broadly covers up the aspects relating to the differentiation and analysis in respect to gendered crime. The division, scope and nature of crimes against men and women and the juvenile crime are the essence of this paper.
