Sentient Machines Over Sentient Beings – The Need To Regulate Artificial Intelligence

Mr Abhigya Dwivedi, BBA. LLB, Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad & Advocate Kanishka Mittal

ABSTRACT

The article discusses the immediate necessity of a legislation that regulates the use of Artificial Intelligence, since it is at its nascent stage now. While talking about the need for regulation of AI, this article also discusses the various attempts at regulation of the same by different jurisdictions around the world, and the issues faced when it comes to forming regulations. This article also talks about the important subject of legal responsibility of autonomous machines, and tries to address the question of whether such machines can be seen as real agents of the developer, and if not, then on whom does the actual liability fall. We argue that where a proper legislation on AI is the need of the hour, over-regulation of the same also has to be avoided at all costs.

Keywords: Regulation, technology, development, liability, machines.
