ABSTRACT


The pursuit of truth is a foundational element of the criminal justice system, where various investigative techniques and legal procedures are designed to ensure a fair balance between punishing the guilty and protecting the innocent. The intersection of law and science is increasingly prominent in modern jurisprudence, particularly through the integration of forensic science. This paper explores the evolution of forensic science, emphasizing the significance of scientific methodologies such as fingerprinting, DNA analysis, and the Narco Analysis Test in criminal investigations.


It taken from the Greek term for 'anesthesia' or 'torpor,' has gained attention as a notable scientific advancement in India. This technique involves administering barbiturates, i.e Sodium Pentothal, to put him in a hypnotic state, during which subjects are interrogated by legal officials in presence of medical professionals. It test aims to uncover hidden truths by lowering inhibitions, but it is not without controversy. The accuracy of the information obtained under hypnosis is questionable, as the statements made may lack voluntariness and coherence, making them inadmissible in court.


The ethical and procedural implications of Narco-analysis are significant. The practice raises concerns about physical and psychological harm, as well as the potential violation of individual autonomy and privacy. This paper examines these issues in depth, highlighting the complexities and challenges of integrating contemporary scientific techniques into the legal framework. Ultimately, while Narco-analysis and similar methodologies offer new avenues for investigation, their application must be carefully considered to safe the legal rights of an individuals within the justice system.
