The Evolution Of Crime In India: A Historical Analysis

Anandita Keshri, Chaudhry Charan Singh University, IME College ABSTRACT

The human mind is a fascinating subject to study, and as a species, humans are among the most developed creatures on earth. Throughout history, humans have lived in groups and formed civilizations to complete the tasks required for everyday life. As these societies developed, certain behaviors became unacceptable and were discouraged by the community. Individuals who acted differently or engaged in these dejected behaviors began to be seen as deviant or criminal. This led to the creation of the notion of crime, which has been a part of human society ever since.

This paper focuses on crime in India throughout history, exploring the convoluted relation between development of crime along with society rising from ancient, medieval to modern era. India has a rich and complex history, and its approach to dealing with crime has evolved significantly over time. This research will also throw some light on how the state's role in combating crime has also changed, with the administration taking on a more active role in modern times.
