Tanvi Joshi, United World School of Law, Karnavati University

ABSTRACT

Regulatory changes have a significant impact on the world of mergers and acquisitions (M&A), shaping the deal-making landscape and presenting both opportunities and challenges for businesses. This article explores the influence of antitrust laws, government regulations, and geopolitical factors on M&A activities. It highlights recent regulatory changes, such as the EU's Digital Markets Act, the US's antitrust lawsuits against Big Tech, and China's crackdown on domestic tech giants. The article emphasizes the need for businesses engaged in M&A to stay informed, adapt their strategies, and proactively navigate the complex regulatory environment. By closely monitoring regulatory developments, engaging in dialogue with regulators, and conducting thorough due diligence, businesses can identify and mitigate potential regulatory risks while ensuring compliance with evolving laws. The successful examples of deals such as Microsoft's acquisition of LinkedIn and Disney's merger with Fox demonstrate the importance of taking a proactive and strategic approach in navigating regulatory changes in M&A. To achieve successful outcomes in this dynamic landscape, businesses must be prepared to navigate and leverage regulatory changes effectively.
