Case Comment On “LG Polymers India Private Limited V. Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board”

INTRODUCTION


The Visakhapatnam gas leak was an industrial accident that occurred in the Gopalapatnam neighbourhood which is at the outskirts of Visakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh India where there was a vapor cloud spread over the radius of 3 kilometre due to the negligence of LG Polymers chemical plant in the R.R Venkatapuram village.


The gas Leak was due to the result of insufficient maintenance of units storing the styrene monomer and improper storage and operational errors of the management. The incident triggered discussions on industrial safety, regulatory compliance, and the need for a proactive approach to prevent chemical disasters. The incident raised questions about the adherence to safety protocols in chemical industries. The national disaster response force set that there were 13 deaths and more than 1000 people became sick after being exposed to the gas.
