ABSTRACT
This paper explores the transition from cooperative federalism to competitive federalism within India's federal structure. It explores the constitutional provisions controlling center-state interactions and the power dynamics between the central government and the states, as well as the historical development of Indian federalism. The influence of competitive elections on center-state relations and the national and subnational governments' pursuit of policies beyond their customary mandates are examined in this study. It also highlights the challenges of managing these dynamics for foreign governments and corporations working with India. It also analyzes the chances for cooperative federalism alongside the dominance of competitive federalism. In closing, the study considers how center-state relations have changed in India and what it means for the move toward competitive federalism.
