Digital Privacy: Fact Or Myth?

Sangeeth Krishna G S, Government Law College, Ernakulam

Digital privacy refers to the right of individuals to control their personal information online and to prevent it from being accessed or used without their permission. It is the ability to keep our personal data, online activity, and communications private and secure.

With the increasing use of technology and the internet, digital privacy has become more important than ever before. Our personal data is constantly being collected and shared by companies, governments, and other entities. This data can be used to target us with advertising, to influence our opinions, or even to commit identity theft. Digital privacy protects our individual rights to privacy, freedom of expression, and freedom of association. It also helps to prevent abuse and discrimination, as personal information can be used to discriminate against individuals or groups based on their race, gender, religion, or other characteristics.

In addition, digital privacy is critical for maintaining democracy and political freedom. It allows individuals to express their opinions without fear of retaliation or surveillance, and to engage in peaceful political activism without being targeted by governments or other groups.

Also, digital privacy is important for maintaining trust and confidence in the digital economy. As more and more people use the internet for commerce and other activities, they must be able to trust that their personal information is being kept secure and not being misused. Overall, digital privacy is a fundamental human right and an essential component of a free and democratic society.
