I. DEATH BY DOWRY: AN INTRODUCTION

Dowry incidents have been reported in the newspapers of Delhi and all the other states. A dowry is a significant financial gift enhanced by the groom or bride to one‘s new spouse at the time of marriage. A Hindu Brahmin Priest, Santhosh Bhau, asserts, "It is customary to never venture anyplace vacant." The dowry is a reward from the bride's family to the groom to welcome her into their own residence. In some instances, the proof may be vague, so that fire- related deaths of women may well be classified as cooking collisions, suicide attempts, or even mass killings. Dowry violence has a distinct appearance. Following the wedding, the family of the groom renders higher requirements for the paying an annual cash or the delivery of more goods. These demands take the form of persistent abuse of the bride, who resides with her husband's parents, and culminate in the bride's death by the family of the husband.2
