Evolution Of Ragging: How To Curb The Menace?

Arif Hussain, Institute of law Nirma University

"Hazing and ragging is indeed a weed in the Garden of Academe." -Hank Nuwer

ABSTRACT:

Now that ragging has slowed down, this is extremely clear from the sharp decline in the number of cases reported each year. Every educational institution has an anti-ragging committee that works diligently all year long to prevent ragging from occurring, remove its causes, and eradicate its roots. In contrast to the thousands of ragging cases that were reported annually a decade earlier, only 511 ragging complaints were reported in 20211. Although though there are very few incidents reported, and there is less attention given to ragging cases than there used to be, this has created a new issue. Nowadays, inaction and underreporting are the main issues fueling ragging.
