Akshita Saran, Banasthali Vidyapith

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to analyse the role of the government of a nation in maintaining and protecting the integrity and security of its citizens, especially during the period of crisis. We shall also deal with the role of Constitution of the nation and its Defence Forces in protecting the integrity and security of the country respectively. A constitution can play it part effectively only if the spirit of constitutionalism prevails in the State, which is one of the major factors which helps in maintaining the integrity of the State. Therefore, it is only through the spirit of constitutionalism that citizens shall bow down to the Constitution which is meant to protect the integrity of the State. Another factor is the quasi- federal form of Indian Government which places a power at the Centre which in spite of the country being divided into various states, holds the country together with a sense of harmony. Further, detailed research has been conducted with a special reference made to the current situation in Afghanistan. In furtherance of understanding the lack of integrity in Afghanistan, historical perspective of the rule of government in the country has also been analysed along with the contribution of USA behind the rise of Taliban and thus, affecting constitutional governance in Afghanistan. We shall also discuss the reasons and ideologies behind supporting the cruel reign of terrorist groups like Taliban in Afghanistan on the part of two most powerful countries, viz, China and Russia.
