ABSTRACT
In many different industries, the results of legislative and policymaking are significantly influenced by lobbying, which is a strategic attempt to sway decision-makers. This paper tries to look into how lobbying affects the enforcement of wagering contracts in India. Due to historical, cultural, and ethical factors, wagering contracts, often known as gambling contracts, have a complicated legal standing in India. The historical context of gambling laws, the legal structure governing wagering agreements, and the impact of lobbying on the development of these laws are all examined in this research paper.
INTRODUCTION
“A wagering contract is one by which two persons, professing to hold opposite views touching the issue of future uncertain event, mutually agree that, dependent upon the determination of the event, one shall win from the other, and other shall pay or handover to him, a sum of money or other stake ; neither of the contracting party having any other interest in the contract than the sum or stake, he will so win or lose, there being no other real consideration for making of such contracts by either of the parties.”1
Lobbying is a well-established practice of influencing the governmental and administrative actions by communicating directly with the officials in the executive branch or the legislative branch of the State. It has a huge impact on the laws and policies made in the country as well as the enforcement of these laws. It generally works in dispersed and opaque manner.
