Uniform Civil Code (UCC): A Critical Review In Current Scenario

ABSTRACT

The paper briefly talks about the current discussions about UCC in India and its implementation. It talks about the list of factors abstaining from the process of UCC to implement and its demand in the current situation. It includes laws of different religions and after effects of UCC and its interference with these personal laws. It talks about the role of judiciary and certain landmark cases which showed the demand for the implementation of Uniform Civil Code.

INTRODUCTION

In recent times, debate over personal laws in India is going in full swing. Due to which need for common laws has taken place in ṭhe debate. With this debate the chapter of UCC i.e., Uniform Civil Code has been unfolded again after several debates over this issue in the past. The main aim of UCC in India is to shift from personal laws mentioned in the scriptures and customs to particular laws set for each and everyone. It seeks to promote gender equality, justice, dignity of every sex and national integration. It says that all the private laws such as laws for divorce, marriage, maintenance, adoptions should be the same without matter of their faith.
